Little People

i don't know how these little babies of mine suddenly grew into little outspoken people with minds of their own. isaiah is fascinated by anything and everything. not to mention, he (along with his sidekick sister) feel they're old enough to make their own decisions....soooooo independent! isaiah's new favorite words are, "but mom, that's so boring! lets do BOY stuff!" makayah's favorite non-jibberish word is "mine!" which she learned from her big brother. all the other times she'll jabber on and on about something....i just wish i could understand what she's trying to say! however, her vocabulary is quickly expanding. this morning she was "helping" me unload the dishwasher and as she handed me the clean utensils i said, "thank you." so the next time she handed me a spoon she said, "tank you!" i jumped up and down and clapped my hands in celebration...and she was so proud of herself she did the same. i love their emerging personalities. they are strong-willed and full of spirit, and no matter how aggravating it can be to get them to follow directions sometimes, i love it and wouldn't change a thing about them. isaiah has always been such a boy in every sense of the word. he loves sports, camping, pirates and swords, and getting into boyish mischief. and makayah couldn't be more opposite. she loves carrying around a purse and wearing her sparkly sunglasses. she'll climb into my closet and try on every heeled shoe i have while draping silk scarves around her head and neck. last night i attended enrichment night with makayah in tow. there happened to be a couple babies there and she headed straight for them. i ran after her thinking the stronger more competitive side of her would rage through and i'd have to stop her from strangling someone. but she bulldozed right through, came to a sudden halt (not toppling over the baby to my surprise) and gently gave the baby a nice pat on the head and cheek. next she tried to hug the babies but i did have to pull makayah away when she tried to pick one of the babies up. although she and isaiah are beginning to have their battles, she can still be so gentle and loving. speaking of battles. isaiah has begun to taunt makayah and i think its mostly because makayah has taken to screaming at the top of her lungs, cussing her poor brother out - and that really bothers isaiah ("don't be mean to me!"). she likes to take his toys away from him and run away pretending she's the victim. and once, isaiah yelled after her, "FINE! you don't have any friends anymore!! nobody is gonna play with you!" makayah babbled something under her breath and gave me a ruffled look. i shrugged my shoulders and said, "its true pookie, if you're going to be mean and steal his toys away you won't have any friends to play with - especially since he's your ONLY friend right now." she hung onto her stubborn ways for a bit longer and then finally decided it was in her best interest to apologize by going up to isaiah and giving him a hug and a kiss. and i didn't have to force them to make up! yes! it's been an interesting week observing the interaction between the two of them. they really are the best of friends...most of the time. on a different note...we spent this afternoon doing our most favorite thing as a family. after doing what we do best, sam said "what do crowfoots do best?!" and isaiah yelled out from the back seat, "SHOPPING!!" gardening came in close behind...only because isaiah and makayah love running through the sprinklers. yes, i am attempting to plant a garden this year. i really don't have a green thumb, mainly because i forget to water my plants and i hate digging through the dirt. BUT, this year i am going to tough it out and just do it. luckily we already have a mature cherry tree in bloom and all i need to do is pick the stinking cherries this time. i picked most of them last year, but i could've done better. with the help of my two little assistants, we planted some grapes, blueberries, green beans, strawberries, tomatoes, spinach, and bell peppers. i have more seeds to plant but we'll see what actually sprouts up. we'll keep ya posted.
