Cherry Pickin'

yay! finally i get to write on this thing again. tons of things have been going on...obviously. i LOVE this warm weather! thank goodness. we don't feel so cooped up anymore. anyway, there have been some interesting events. not too long ago we found out we were expecting, surprisingly, and then we found out we weren't any longer. but you know, i'm okay with it. all in good time. it was actually everyone else with their pitying eyes and the apologies that made me feel just awful. but i really believe that everything happens at a particular time and its all part of a bigger plan. this was all out of my hands and i'm cool with it. however, isaiah was quite sad, which also made me sad too. he really wanted a baby brother. someday. but for now, i think we will enjoy the two energetic and mouthy kids we have right now. :) so anyway, we've been trying to do as many fun and crazy things to make this summer count, before sam has to be a responsible adult again and go to law school next year. this past monday we went to see lupe fiasco (along with special guest matthew santos ;) ), pharrell (wow!), rhianna (gorgeous!), and kanye west (amazing!!) in concert. we left the kids with our good friends and headed out. what a show! i can't even tell you how much i LOVED it. sam, darrell (my brother), and my two good friends and former roomies - marshelda, and revina came along. mars and i were jumping - yes, jumping! - in our heels the entire concert! we all danced our hearts out, yelled our voices dry, and eventually crawled into bed around 2am with ringing ears. it was sooooooo worth it! man, i miss clubbing! anyway, it was awesome. the next day i felt like i had done 500 crunches. my entire body was soooo sore! also, the day of the concert just happened to be isaiah's first day of preschool. i was wrestling with the idea....but isaiah begged and begged. he really does need the social atmosphere, otherwise he's bored out of his mind. so, its a good thing. actually, it did finally give me some time to finish the TWILIGHT series. sam had given me all three books for my birthday a while ago. i love reading. love it. it does have its pros and cons though. when i get involved in a series like this...i tend to forget that i'm a mother and wife with responsibilities and i'm completely engrossed. so, now onto getting my house in order. we've been doing our landscaping the past few days and already our neighbors feel compelled to complement. oh...funny story. i was working outside with isaiah and makayah playing right beside me. two people walk by and isaiah yells out, "hi!!" they turn to him and wave hello. makayah, a little too late, sprints up and says hello as well, but the couple had already past out of range. isaiah looks to his sister waving to the emptiness without a friendly reply. obviously he feels compelled to yell out once again, "HEY! HEY YOU PUNKS! SHE SAID HELLO! SAY HI TO MY SISTER YOU PUNKS!" oh my gosh. was that MY son?! i was hoping they didn't hear it and had to say something, and fast! my voice broke out in a harsh whisper, "you don't call your sister names! (just in case they were in ear shot- yikes!) what are you doing?! you don't say things like that to people!" isaiah, of course, has a response for everything, "but mom, they're punks! they didn't say hi to pahkayah!" YES, THEY DID! THEY SAID HELLO TO US ALL! oh brother. sam and darrell sure got a kick out of it though. i didn't recognize the couple...oh well. i'm going to end here. i have a ton of work to do before the temperatures reach boiling point. and tons of cherries to pick before the neighborhood kids start to sneak 'em. i'll post some pictures soon, i promise.

  1. My little sister talked me into buying the first book, Twilight, and I'm think I'm scared to read it. Everyone says how addicting the series is. I guess I'll have to find the time to read it.
As far as your concert experience, GO YOU!! I have to say I enjoy a little concert here and there. You know you gotta let loose as parents sometime--it's healthy. Well, have all the fun you can before school, yup that's what we're thinking too. School ... (sigh) yay! Glad you're having a great time!

  5. you're amazing! isaiah is such a character isn't he? i read the twilight series too, i love them, but HATE how they leave you hanging on for the next book, which in my case i had to wait a whole year for each of them!!
"The Host" is really good too!

  6. Hey Monika,

I totally understand about how it feel with the "i'm so sorry". Not many know -- but we had that happen twice before we got Leif. I'm jealous about your concert time. I think all moms who read the Twilight series ignore their children and husbands...look out Sam and Josh, the fourth book is almost here.
