i'm really trying to catch up, honest. the very last week of march was spring break for both isaiah and sam. i love how they coincide the schools with one another. i hope it stays that way in elementary next year. ;) anyway, we did quite a bit during spring break. before spring break began, sam and i had both read the book, "the road" by cormack mcarthy.
freaked us out. then we saw the movie. whoa. freaked us out even more. we decided we better get on the ball concerning emergency supplies and whatnot...better to be prepared. so with part of our tax return we bought our backpacking bags, backpacking tent, two hiking bags for each of the kids to carry their own sleeping bags, hiking shoes for everyone. next, we packed our packs with our 72 hour supplies, and headed out to governor dodge, wi to go camping.
it was pretty fun. we went out on a 2 mile hike and the kids did well, considering. exploring the cave was the coolest and spookiest part of the hike. and since it was just a practice run, we did bring marshmallows, chocolate, and graham crackers for s'mores. all in all, we were fairly prepared, but, next time we will have to remember to bring utensils. but since we had packed mre's it wasn't too big of a problem. sadly, we left our camera at home during our camping trip. :(
the other big task...room switching. we had thought about moving out after our lease ends, into a 3 bedroom apt. but, we really LOVE our little place here. we've made it nice and "homey" and would really hate to move. we are in a perfect spot for schools, bus stops, shopping, etc. after much thought and consideration, we decided to switch rooms with the kids. the kids have the smaller bedroom, and our master bedroom is fairly huge. it was the perfect solution, and now there is enough room for a baby crib when the time comes. after all, we're only in this apt for two more years.
the end result!
we also bought them bunkbeds, we were so lucky they were on sale. :)
i'm a huge labeler. i figured, it would help the kids know exactly where their toys SHOULD go, instead of just heaping it into one gigantic, messy pile. (leftover preschool tricks, it still comes in handy!)
labeling serves a multitude of purposes. 1) hubby now knows where to put the kids' clothes away - no more excuses. 2) emergent literacy. 3) words coupled with pictures, so it also helps makayah out. and now, when i ask the kids to roll their clothes and put them away...they know.
this tiny switcheroo really has done wonders. the kids love it, we love it, everyone is happy.
