5k's and brunch with our favorite people

we had a couple of boxes to tick off of our summer bucket list.

sam really wanted to run the warrior dash because he's just bad-a like that.

the "before" photo.

the kids and i hung out for about an hour...a little less than that. we ate gluten-free rice cakes and watched people covered in muck, get slathered in more muck at this motorcycle area. it entertained the three older kids the entire time.

after 30 minutes we packed up our little sitting spot and made our way to the finish line. we really didn't want to miss sam's exit.

go dad! go!

okay, i may be biased, but i think he's pretty hot stuff...mud and all.

little miss sassafras.

this kid wants to run the warrior dash next year...
he's still too little, but as soon as he reaches the age limit - i think he's gonna have at it.

oh my goodness, this girl is a crack up.

lady killer.
good grief, this kid is too cute for his own good.

after sam washed off in a nearby lake - yes, along with all the other warrior dashers, we were starving. we picked up some pizza and lazied about the park.

we had about an hour and a half to kill before having to get to the electric run.
i think we are officially a family of runners.
running 5k's as a family this summer has been an unexpected thrill.

we adorned ourselves with glow-stick necklaces, and glow-stick glasses...
put glowies on the the jogging stroller, along with flashing bike lights.
we were pretty pumped.

this was our starting line.

it wasn't until around 8:45 that the race actually began. so, poor baby mo was getting fussy. it was past his bedtime and he was feeling restless. i gave him my jacket with which he quickly cuddled, sucked his thumb, and drifted off to sleep.

sam's racing shoes.

the peeps at the electric run.

ok, so maybe he didn't go to sleep right away, but at least he stopped crying.
mimzy immediately stopped her whining when her daddy picked up this free glo stick. nice one, daddy!

gettin' our water drank on.

the course had some pretty cool trippy trails. it was like some crazy alice in wonderland...

when we had finished the 5k, we just had to dance.

the after-party is the best part.
isaiah can get down!

mo woke up, determined to join in the fun.

the stage.

makayah, on the stage. of course she is.
go girl!

we were tired and hungry. we stayed the night with our good friends truscenia and sir.
she stayed up and cooked salmon with fresh veggies and risotto. holy smokes, lady - thank you so much. we talked and laughed and had such a good time.
and in the morning we did it all again over brunch, and this time with another one of our friends, ayesha. it's always a lovely time, thank you so much for your hospitality. we love hanging with you all.

the end.
