farewell summer

summer in wisconsin is magical.

chasing fireflies at dusk.
hot and humid days perfect for splashing in the lakes.
warm evenings made just for picnics and bbq-ing.
canoeing in sparkling rivers.
walks down to the local ice cream parlor.
gathering with friends.

i really wanted to help the kids have a smooth adjustment. moving is challenging: new friends, new school, new jobs, new home. making happy memories and filling moments with fun activities and hysterical laughter can definitely help ease the newness of it all.

we had such an enjoyable weekend, and i was determined to continue it. time for an end of the summer celebration!

as soon as the kids woke up this morning, they changed into their swimsuits, had breakfast, and we had ourselves a day of water fights and pool splashing.

in the afternoon, we began our back to school party prep. sam was due back home by 5 or 6 this evening and we wanted everything to be ready.

we set the picnic table and waited patiently for daddy to arrive...well, at least they tried to wait patiently.

and boy, were they happy when he arrived. they were starving!
we had chicken salad skewers, fruit, and lemonade.

a lemonade pucker.

nothing tastes like summer quite like lemonade.

it's so fun to be silly, and very much encouraged in this house!

it was great to have our family back together. :)

our very hungry caterpillar back-to-school cake.

auntie myha sent sam back with treats for us from her recent trip to vietnam. thank you myha!! we loved it all!!

we brought out the sparklers and shouted out one last goodbye to this lovely summer season!

sparklers are magical, too.

...and so much fun.

bedtime, at last. but not before the baby is attacked with a sticker book.

and his mouth stuffed with his soother. thanks, mimzy. :)

farewell summer.
