the first day of school, always full of surprises...

i get just as excited and nervous about the first day of school as any of my kids, maybe even a tad more.
i organized their bags and supplies. i packed their lunch for the first day of school with a note saying, "i love you." i was ready to drive and personally drop off the kids to their new classrooms.
i really thought i had prepared for everything.

we even made time for first day of school pictures with mom.

mimzy snuck into this one. ;)

okay, so maybe we didn't have all that much time for pictures, but they were important to me. but now, it was hustle time! i threw everyone in the car for the 2 minute ride to school. i proceeded to unload everyone and their bags of school supplies. i grabbed the double stroller, whipped it open and carried mimzy into her seat. she was whining about something but i had no time to figure out what it was until i felt something wet on my arm. wait, what? my wet arm. that's weird. i extended my wet arm to open mosiah's door, and that's when i saw it.
poop.
not just any old wet diaper.
a wet, poopy explosion of a diaper.

agh! freaking out, freaking out. what do i do?!
kids! where are the wipes?! FIND THE WIPES!!!
everyone was in a panic and wipes were nowhere to be found. i usually have a carrier loaded with diapers and wipes...but, then i just remembered the wipes were accidentally taken inside.
nooooooooooo!

i continued to freak out, my heart was thumping, i was in the worst panic. there was absolutely nothing to wipe this poop up with. no extra t-shirts, no discarded tissues, no papers, nothing. sam and the kids had cleaned out the car especially for the first day of school. spick and span. perfect timing.

despite the spritz of perfume i applied this morning, the stench of poop seemed to rise in wavy green lines from my arm, overpowering any pleasant aroma there may have been previous. and lets not forget my poor mimzy, crying in the stroller.
i carried her back into the car, and buckled her back into her soiled carseat. she was NOT happy about it. but i was still freaking out and had to think of something quick.
i told isaiah and makayah they could go in without me...
NO!
okay, fine. think monika, think!
it was then that i remembered makayah was asked to bring in wipes for her supplies. hallelujah! thank the lord. i tore open the wipes, wiped up my arm (i was extremely lucky it hadn't gotten on anything else), packed the stroller back into the car, left the crying babies, and ran into the school building with isaiah and makayah.
unpredictable days like today, i am so glad we attended the school open house and made ourselves familiar with the new school. thank heavens.

i dropped off my sweet makayah to her kindergarten classroom. xoxo

and next, isaiah and i made our way to his classroom. xoxo

i'm so glad they were excited for their first day, despite the chaos of the morning.

now, time to tackle the poop disaster.
my poor little mimzy was so sad about it all. i let her know i wasn't upset at her. i showered her up, and kissed her better.

might as well wash up the other baby.

and then it was time for cuddles, my mimzy needed them.
everything was all better again.

we only live 2 minutes away, but the kids catch the bus anyhow.
i absolutely LOVE the bus. it helps that the kids love it, too. they've been begging to ride the bus ever since preschool.

some things you can't predict and prepare for. but in the end, it really does work out.
it's something i can call my mom about and laugh at now that it's all done with. ;)

today i am grateful for:
*the first day of school, even though i'm gonna miss my helpers, terribly so!
*WIPES, WIPES, WIPES. i don't know what i would've done...
*washing machines, and craigslist. i'm gonna need a new double stroller.

  2. I hate that moment of panic when you realize you don't have the wipes ... but this story tops them all! Go Supermom!
