a day of wind and snow

i had decided this season that as soon as it snowed, i'd begin playing christmas music and watching christmas movies. sometimes, wisconsin winters can be tough for me to endure. i'm a wimp from arizona (the northern part that actually has snow - but mild snow), and i've found as the years have gone by, cold and winter just isn't as fun anymore. mostly, maybe, because i can't just run out and play, but i have to bundle all three kids in their snow clothes (which can be a huge event in itself), and then i have to carry these bundles through wind and sleet and freezing cold to the van. THANKFULLY, we have a van this year with power sliding doors. it makes a huge difference. but still, sometimes, having to bundle, carry, and drive in the cold and crappy weather can be challenging.

sooooo, back to my point. i wanted this year's snowy, cold, crappy weather to be something fun and something that i looked forward to. and since i always look forward to christmas music and christmas movies...why wait until christmas when it's already snowing? besides, one month is just not enough to watch these movies over and over.

in the wee hours of the morning, i heard the hard fall of rain. it was coming down in sheets, and about half an hour later, sprinkles. when it was time to drive isaiah to school, it was just a weak drizzle. isaiah asked to wear his snow pants (sam and i had brought up all the snow clothes last night), and i looked outside and said, "nope. it's only raining. you won't need your snow pants, just wear your rain boots." he insisted he would need his snow pants, but complied to his mama like a good little boy.

and here's where i feel foolish. a few hours later, the hail came in small pellets. the hail turned to big clumps of sleet in a matter of minutes. and five minutes after that, i looked out the window to find a full fledged snow storm. oops. my bad. sorry isaiah.

the good news, samiyah and i blasted our christmas music and danced along, bobbing our heads to the cheery tunes. and it was suddenly so appropriate for the snow to be falling. if only i didn't have to go back out into the wind and sleet, it'd be great.

the kids and i also kicked off the first day of snow with some baking. thanks for the recipe, katrina. i've been looking for a good whole wheat bread recipe. ;)
