welcome to the big island, day one

saturday
after a good night's rest, we were itching to explore our surroundings.

the temperature was perfect, even with the soft breeze.
it was strange not to be wearing a jacket or coat in november.

since my parents had a meeting that morning (and actually for the majority of our stay), we piled in the car, cranked up our island music on the radio, and went cruising.

we drove around the waikoloa resort, acquainting ourselves to the various shops and amenities nearby.

then, it was off to waimea. we drove through this beautiful little town and spotted a farmer's market.
we taste tested passion fruit tarts, bought a handful of fresh fruits and veggies, and a freshly made passion fruit pie. our taste buds were tingling.

we stopped off at the local grocery store to pick up items we couldn't at the farmer's market to stock up our fridge back at our temporary home for the week.
we drove back to our place, dressed for the beach and tried out the lava lava beach located within the resort boundaries.

mosiah wasn't sure what to think about sand and ocean waves.

this beach was rather rocky, and we soon found out why it was called lava lava beach.
to avoid the lava rocks, we kept to the shoreline.

...and had fun with the gentle surf that covered our legs.
our place came loaded with beach equipment of every sort.
score!

little mo wasn't crazy about the rough sand and insisted on being held.

despite the rocky beach, the weather was gorgeous.

and we had so much fun with all the beach toys.

after a few hours, we washed off the coarse sand, gave our raw feet a rest, and topped off our evening with pizza and limeade.

it was a beautiful day.
the end.
