down for the count...

i can usually will myself out of getting sick, even when every one of my kids is coughing or sneezing on me. i wasn't so lucky this time. i had been battling the sniffles for the past week and thought i'd be coming out of it the next morning. on thursday, i was out. my whole head was so stuffy that all i could do was lie down on the couch and try to referee my kids from there. sam realized i wasn't up to functioning capability and saved me from a miserable day. he wrote his professors and skipped class to drive the kids to school, to pick them up, to feed them, to play with them - all the things i couldn't do while lifeless on the couch. i was extremely grateful.

sam ordered me to the bedroom and asked if i needed anything - food, movies, books? as i heaved myself off the couch and tried not to fall over with my dizzy and stuffed up head, i made my request of grape juice and water. it was so nice of sam to offer me a day locked up in the bedroom with food and entertainment, but all i wanted and needed was sleep. i sipped my juice, took a chug of water and immediately let my body drift into unconsciousness.

you know how i said it would be nice to have a wife of my own? well, actually, i take that back. i'm glad i have my husband. he tidied the house and did the laundry. he fed the kids dinner - not home cooked, but they were fed. he dragged them along to his law school meeting that evening so i could sleep. he bathed them and put them down for bed. he really saved me today. sometimes, i feel with all the people i have to take care of, i don't have the luxury of getting sick, but, sam took care of me the way i needed to be cared for. he gave me that luxury, and i'm just really humbled and grateful for a wonderful husband who took time out of his own busy schedule to show me that he cares.

after my day of rest, i felt ten times better. the stuffiness in my head went away and my sinuses cleared up. i could walk around without the massive throbbing in my head and the dizziness that accompanied the movement.

it's nice to feel normal again, or at least close to it. friday, i was back to running the usual errands. i was still a little stuffy and not completely energetic, so, we had an easy day of fun friday popcorn and movies. sam was back to writing papers and doing homework. and thankfully, the kids were super helpful in tidying up the house before beginning the fun. and this weekend, i was definitely looking forward to starting. thank goodness for fun fridays, and easy going weekends.

some photos from fun friday.

makayah and samiyah playing beauty shoppe while watching sesame street.

feeling better, but taking it easy - friday was all about movies and cuddling.

i cannot express how much i love moments like these. no squabbling, no teasing, no whining - just pure sibling love. i have awesome kids.

fun friday love. daddies are the best.

watch out for mimzy. those little poking and pinching fingers are no joke.

daddy is a good sport.

our first ever dairy-free pizza. fail. so...we won't be going completely dairy free. we love our cheese too much.

samiyah was carrying around isaiah's teddy bear and she just looked so stinkin' cute. i tried to capture it, but she's too fast for my iphone camera. sigh. i guess i should end this break with my real camera and just get it back out already.

we had the best buttery popcorn with parmesan cheese and m&m's!

clearly not the best photos, but they do fine for the blog. ;)

  1. what a sweet valentine who REALLY loves you! this daddy is one of the best i ever heard of... so proud of him! there's more to higher learning than what happens in class, it's what you learn (and become) in the juggling-- legal skills acquired pay off down the road, but happy seeds planted in childrens' hearts bear emotional nourishment for generations... hope you get better soon, Monika! :]
