i saw something on pinterest about a summer schedule.
i kinda took that and melded it with some others i had seen, and then customized it for myself.
i wanted something easy to follow with lots of flexibility, but still needing a routine so we don't go crazy this summer.
this has been working wonderfully.
we don't always follow it.
but we do most of the time.
some days, i just let the kids play outside with their friends, and we scratch the whole schedule.
other days, we start with our morning yoga - breathing it all in and loving it all out.
i really think it helps the day go smoother.
some of the items on our summer bucket list are:
*go to the carnival
*have root beer floats at the drive-in
*watch a movie and eat popcorn
*go fishing
*go canoeing
*go biking
*go hiking
*go camping
*drink raspberry lemonade on the patio during a summer sunset
*run a family 5k
*go swimming in the lake
*go mini golfing
*go to the natural history museum in chicago
*go to navy pier
*go to the jelly belly factory
the homeschool learning activities are a combination of lists on pinterest.
just a couple of things we've done:
*chalk drawings
*vinegar and baking soda art
*painting
*playdoh sculptures and literacy activities
*science experiments
*tie-dye
*practical life skills like laundry and baking and cleaning
i really can't remember all of the things we've done.
but you can find the lists of activities on my pinterest board.
we really just take things in stride. if the kids are bored, we do a fun activity. if they are overstimulated, we just chill and hang out with friends.
we've also been doing a lot of dejunking.
it is so much easier to clean when there isn't much to clean and put away.
we are slowly, but surely, making our way to a more minimalistic way of life.
no annoying toys that break within minutes of purchase,
or are forgotten days after their newness wears off.
less clothes, less toys, less unnecessary kitchen gadgets, less clutter...more time for important things.
in stark contrast...
makayah and i just scrubbed these walls down two days ago (red crayon). and today's medium of choice: green marker (crayola washable). makayah had this room spotless yesterday. we've gotten rid of so many clothes and stuff, and yet this...
the summer has also included lots of juicing.
i'd really like to get in on this juice action, especially considering i make the stuff, but this little miss is a major juice hog.
but when she is this cute, it's so hard to say no.
"mommy, gimme pah-korn... i be nice, k?"
and on the days when my brain is fried, and i can't think of anything fun or creative to do...
a trip to the doctor's office will have to suffice.
it's fun, there's new toys, see?
it's out of the ordinary.
i'll count it.
we love summer, no matter what we're doing.
