balance

my day began at 5:30am. isaiah had a nightmare and came in bed to cuddle. my head is not the best at getting back to sleep. i suppose i should've done my early morning yoga, but...

thursdays in our home are work days. and mims wasted no time in helping me out, because picking up 20 wipes before they dry out is a pretty fun job for mama to do.

and when i was done collecting wipes, it was immediately time to gather up the diapers. ;)

i have no clue where the cabinet safety latch went. i think she was looking for food.

makayah didn't bother too much with making messes since she was more interested in her nativity set.

i'm not sure why, but every time the front door is opened, mimzy's eyes widen, she gasps, and bolts for the door. we must be holding her against her will, because she is always so eager to escape.

today was laundry day. the girls love laundry day because that means we get extra play time in the basement.

driving cars, riding bikes, running free...

and sliding down slides with your sister. :)

today, mims wore the pants i made for makayah when she was little. they fit!

you know how when you were little, you pretended to be cinderella - or someone like her - and you would iron just for pretend thinking it was so much fun? i tried to pretend myself back in time, and then ironing wasn't so bad.

after ironing while watching "a little princess" with the girls (makayah was so into it, asking non-stop questions about what was going on - "wow. mom that was a sad movie. but i liked it.")....

it was time to pick up the brother. we landed the best parking spot - right outside isaiah's music class. i watched and laughed as isaiah was clearly playing a dance freeze game. i love how this kid can totally rock out. anyway, as he was being his goofy, fun-loving self, we decided to roll down the window and wave to see if he would be able to spot us. it was very bad timing on our part, right as the kids were supposed to be "frozen." we waved, his face lit up, and he waved back! the teacher called him out, and he threw back his head in defeat (he was current reigning champ of 'dance freeze'), and sat down. well, he sat down for a second, and then he turned back to the window, showcased another silly little jig while waving both hands at makayah and i. my mouth almost hurt from smiling and laughing so much.

he is the tiny spot of striped yellow and black in the window in the background.

when isaiah had jumped into the car, we headed towards the library for our library day this week. while there, an older man came up to me to tell me, "is that your son over there? he is the most polite young man. he saw my grandson's toy and was going to see one of the librarians about the lost and found."
it must be all the pregnancy hormones, but i choked up just after i said, "thanks."

library days are so vital to our weeks. it gives us a little variety and play time in a new, but familiar environment, runs out the kids energy levels, and allows for quiet reading time when we get home.

since the kids were fairly good today (except for little mims, who wanted to be a grinch today - but, i'm gonna let that slide since she is battling a cough and sniffles.)... but, mostly because i was pretty tired from the balancing act of work and play... i moved up our movie day. we made popcorn and continued the second disc of lord of the rings. i know. it's been very drawn out, and we didn't finish it tonight either.

bedtime is usually very busy and tedious. there's the toothbrushing, and constant reminding. "did you brush? why aren't you in your pj's yet? have you brushed? BRUSH YOUR TEETH!" i didn't realize how exhausting saying a simple phrase over and over and over...could be. and miraculously, somehow everything does eventually get done, and then the kids are gathered back into the living room for a special first of december tradition. we open our little advent boxes and read the scripture inside that tells only part of the story of the birth of Jesus.

i set out our little nativity set today. it was a gift from our dear friend for christmas one year. sam and i love it.

today i am grateful for:

*my sweet and thoughtful children. sometimes they squabble and can be easily distracted, but they are so kind and aware of other people (most importantly, each other). all three completely amaze me.

*the time i had to actually engage in several of my hobbies. i read a chapter from one of the books in my book group. and began sewing a tree skirt for our christmas tree.

*sleepytime tea. goodnight.
