Meet Rocko

routines are important for me. very. i can't seem to get anything done unless my routine is printed up and color coded and taped to the wall where i can clearly see it every day. with all the holiday and birthday hooplah, sniffly kids, and p/t conferences, i have been too busy for routine kinds of things.

with our days back on schedule, we had time to play with bubbles. samiyah was pretty upset when the little bottle ran out.
we had time to play with silly crowns on our heads and chase each other up and down the hallway.

samiyah thought she was such a crack up. she was. :)

after our morning of play, the girlies and i picked up isaiah and daddy. and since i can't remember when the last time i actually had one of my daily 1 milers...so long in fact, that they've become monthly 1 milers...i was long overdue at the Y. the kids had wanted to come along, but daddy took them inside with him, so they could all do their homework, while i drove away. thank you, sam.

my mile was unsurprisingly slow. but, i got in 1.5 miles and i'm going to count that as success. for a cooldown, i did an easy couple miles on the bike while reading for my book group this thursday night. this hour alone made me feel unbelievably productive.

when i got home, we had our lentil soup and green beans. then began our family home evening activity/lesson. i'm embarrassed to say, it's also been a very long time since we actually had an organized FHE lesson. no need to keep that hanging over my head - now's a good time as any to start again.

we played "don't break the ice" for our family bonding activity.

it's always a good thing to go over things like, taking turns, and being a good sport about losing and winning.

samiyah tried multiple times to crash - literally - the game. whenever the guy actually fell, we'd let her hit whatever ice blocks remained. she loved it. but here, we're actually trying to barricade her. it didn't work out too well - as you can see, she flipped herself over the barricade. no one was hurt in the process, but she was quite upset it wasn't her turn yet.

during our fhe lesson, we also introduced our newest houseguest who will be hiding out and spying on our children for the duration of the holiday season. the kids named him "rocko." it was also a perfect time to talk about lying, tricking people (that has gotten obnoxiously out of hand), fighting, and not completing their assigned daily chores. they were pretty excited about him. sam and i were, too.
thanks, rocko.

fhe treats.

the aftermath of yesterday's party. we gave a good chunk away.

 today i am thankful for:

*running. no matter how challenging it is to actually get out the door and to the Y, it is such a nice personal break i get to unwind. the feel good endorphins don't hurt a bit either.

*a quiet evening that allowed me to finish up some sewing projects...mainly our tree skirt. it is done!

*playing games as a family. you wouldn't think so, but it really does build the family morale.
