as i lie awake in my hotel bed, going over all the things we could've done to make our flight, thinking of how we'd be in arizona by now, and then...
i couldn't fall asleep. i was dead tired. but, i don't think anyone could've fallen asleep with the noise above my head. the one time we chose frugality over quality - and i was swiftly reminded why the extra bucks are worth it.
yeah, we missed our flight, and stressed out over what we were to do. but the airport attendant was helpful and got us on a flight the next morning. we had a great time driving around milwaukee in the falling snow, eating a nice meal in a nice restaurant. sam had breathed a sigh of relief and said, "ahh, i'm glad this place is nice and quiet." makayah smiled her sly smile and replied, "not for long! HEY HO! LET'S GO!"
we bought some treats and relaxed in our hotel room watching movies for the rest of the evening. we even let the kids run free and jump on the beds.
they were happy to be out of the car.
and jumping on the beds - which they usually aren't allowed to do.
samiyah didn't jump, but she applauded her older siblings' talents.
it turned out to be pretty okay.
back to the beginning. yes, the missed flight stressed me out. and although we had a fun evening despite the stress, i couldn't help the grumbling going on in my head - focusing on all the things that went wrong...until i heard the blaring fight right above us. everyone in our room was sleeping except for me. there were f-bombs flying left and right. screaming, thumping, and slamming doors. it was really bad. from what i gathered, they were fighting over their children. at one point, the fight moved to our floor just down the hall and when i heard the lady gagging and wailing at the guy to get off of her and let her go, i made a call to the front desk.
i instantly replayed the day over in my head. yeah, we missed our flight. boo-hoo. but there were so many things that went right, too. it could be worse. i'm glad it wasn't.
today i am grateful for:
*a fun time jumping on the beds.
*the airport desk lady who waved a huge portion of fees we should've paid. i'm kinda glad we are arriving in the afternoon now instead of late at night.
*a loving, respectful husband who truly cares for the welfare of his wife and children. i really wish there were more men like him. it saddens me how people treat each other.
makayah's quote of the day:
sam took the wrong turn onto one of milwaukee's freeways and yelled out, "dang it! i didn't want to go this way!" makayah yells out from the back, "well, who's driving, dad?"

who knows why (especially in spite of our best efforts) some days just don't 'go as planned'... maybe there are reasons: protection for ourselves that we could not have foreseen (and may never know of having safely avoided a situation) or for the protection of others that may not have been possible if we had not been present... yes, God IS mindful & over all... xoxoxoxoxoxo
ReplyDeleteyes, the next day in st. paul we actually heard that people were opting to give their seats up on their flight to abq the night before (the flight we should've been on) because things were so chaotic and horrendous. we never got details. but, i think it worked out in our favor
